FRA-70-8.93 Sewer Structure Inventory

Columbus, Ohio

DLZ Surveyors used handheld GIS devices to inventory approximately 1,600 sewer structures and collect underground pipe attributes necessary for the redesign of the I-70/I-71 freeway system in downtown Columbus, Ohio. This information was combined with accurate survey-grade coordinates to develop a project structure database suitable for design purposes.

The approach to incorporating electronic structure reporting methods as opposed to using traditional paper forms saved time and reduced error by allowing the reported information to be directly imported into the database where calculations, reports, drafting applications, and quality control checks were automated.
