IDOT U.S. 30 Reconstruction

Joliet, Illinois

DLZ provided complete engineering design for the reconstruction of 5.5 miles of US-30 in Will County.  US-30 is classified as a principal east-west arterial highway with a design speed of 50 mph.  The project includes reconstruction of the existing two-lane highway to include four lanes (two lanes in each direction separated by a landscaped median barrier or bi-directional turn lane).  Coordination and acceptance of the project successfully executed and involved the U.S. Army Corps, utility companies, Village of Frankfort, Village of New Lenox, Village of Mokena, and the Will County Forest Preserve.

DLZ also provided engineering design services for established right-of-way requirements, new storm sewer, in-line detention, seven traffic signals, several box culverts, noise walls, retaining walls, landscaping plans, erosion control plans, traffic maintenance crossovers and complicated staged construction.  All engineering design was in accordance with the approved Project Report and Location Drainage, the current IDOT Design Manuals, Standards, Specifications, and the AASHTO “A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets.” IDOT extended the project over a 10 year period and broke it into several contracts over that period to keep the project moving within their funding restrictions.
