Projects Construction Management Services

Rickenbacker Parkway, Phase 2

Columbus, Ohio

DLZ performed constructability review and construction contract administration services for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority (CRAA) for Phase 2A of the Rickenbacker Parkway Project. Phase 2A features the construction two new through lanes, at-grade intersections and a median to convert an existing two lanes to a four lane divided highway. The project was needed to improve transportation infrastructure for the newly opened Norfolk Southern Rickenbacker Intermodal Terminal, which is part of the Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park, one of the largest integrated logistics complexes in the U.S.

The DLZ Team provided full crew construction engineering and inspection services on the project, including material testing and the development of construction documentation to the satisfaction of the CRAA, ODOT and the FHWA. In order to reduce the potential for construction claims and change orders, the CRAA hired DLZ to participate in the ODOT staged design review process. The DLZ Team identified areas in the project where there was a moderate to high risk for cost overruns and provided recommendations that led to significant risk reduction or elimination.

The project includes embankment construction, the removal of unsuitable materials and cement stabilization. Other work items include curb and gutter, storm sewer, flexible pavement, a shared use path, street lighting, irrigation and landscaping.
