Projects Survey

US 31 Plymouth to South Bend Improvement Project (US 30 to US 20)

South Bend, Indiana

Staff provided topographic and route surveys, including GPS primary/secondary control for low level aerial mapping, for new road construction and for reconstruction on U.S. 30 in Marshall County, Indiana, to U.S. 20 in St. Joseph County, Indiana.

This survey was approximately 20 miles in length. Low-level aerial mapping, using a fixed wing aircraft mounted camera, provided the base topographic survey with a vertical accuracy of 0.05 foot on hard surfaces, without the need of working within the travel lanes. Conventional ground topography was used to supplement aerial mapping including drainage structures, utilities and obscured areas.
