DLZ Awarded Correctional Study Project to Address Jail Overcrowding, Franklin, Indiana

DLZ was recently awarded a contract from the Johnson County Board of Commissioners to conduct a Correctional Study to address overcrowding at their 308 rated bed jail facility. With Indiana General Assembly House Enrolled Act 1006 now in place, Level 6 felons will be sentenced to County correctional facilities in lieu of being sent to an Indiana Department of Correction facility. This will have a major impact on Indiana county level correctional facilities, both with jails and work releases, as the State average for county level facilities is approximately 83% occupied.  Capacity over 80% is a problem as inmate classification and separation of prey and predator becomes difficult.  DLZ is on schedule to complete the Study by January 2015.

52 Indiana Counties have commissioned DLZ to develop Justice Studies and Designs.  Engineering News Record ranks DLZ the number one correctional design firm in Indiana.
