Public Rights-of-Way
DLZ has assisted many clients with review of compliance of various facilities within the public right-of-way (ROW). Typically utilizing the 2011 Proposed Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines with 2013 Shared Use Pathways additions (PROWAG), DLZ has assisted these clients with data collection, training on data collection, and data analysis for ADA Transition Plans or other deliverable documents.
Facilities within the public rights-of-way that have scoping and technical provisions in PROWAG include
- Pedestrian access routes (PAR), curb ramps and blended transitions
- Detectable warning surfaces,
- Accessible pedestrian signals, pushbuttons, and signs
- Transit stops and transit shelters
- On-street parking spaces
- Passenger loading zones
- Supplementary technical requirements for items including protruding objects, operable parts, clear spaces, clearances, reach ranges, and others.
Ensuring that facilities within the public ROW are accessible is essential to providing usable and safe infrastructure for all users but especially those with disabilities. DLZ has utilized a number of different methods to collect this data, including DLZ staff, college interns, and trained client staff.
