SUSTAINABILITY AT DLZ
Sustainability is an integral part of the DLZ culture. We recognize the importance of conserving our natural resources and strive to consistently minimize the company’s environmental footprint. Across each of our offices, we recycle and promote a paperless business model, including electronic timesheets, expense reports, and extensive use of document scanning and electronic correspondence.
In addition, we have implemented a state-of-the-art videoconference system, which has significantly reduced travel and helped us lower corresponding greenhouse gases. We use energy and water saving technologies and utilize LEED principles for all office renovations. We utilize green infrastructure where possible to reduce storm water volumes and improve its discharge quality. We also promote a “non-idling” practice for our large vehicle fleet.
Our designers and other professionals, many who are LEED Accredited Professionals, utilize principles of sustainable design to reduce our carbon footprint and minimize the environmental impact associated with our projects. We design projects using LEED design principles and have completed many projects ranging from LEED Certified to LEED Gold. We actively promote renewable energy technology here and abroad, including research and development of minimum impact hydrokinetic technology. We also seek opportunities to restore our environment and to create a new model of sustainable community development.

SAFETY AT DLZ
Safety is the foremost aspect of our work and is one of the Chairman’s Six Corporate Values that guide the services we provide our clients. We strive to keep our personnel and those around them safe. DLZ’s employees understand that safety is not an individual choice, but a lifelong value that impacts every project we touch. Our personnel are properly trained to proactively evaluate the working environment and, should the need arise, to react to any challenges we might encounter throughout the day.
Furthermore, our field and office personnel involved in the daily aspects of our projects are OSHA 10-hour trained. Our field personnel and select office personnel have CPR/First Aid training. In addition, our field superintendents, foreman, journeyman, and testing technicians are OSHA 30 Hour trained.

At DLZ, we emphasize safety as a way of life. We conduct daily “toolbox talks” and safety evaluation walk-throughs, pre-job safety analysis walk-throughs, monthly group safety meetings, routine sharing of safety lessons learned, and continuous training programs.
