DLZ has been notified by the City of Columbus of their selection as the architect of record for the design of the replacement of Fire Station #2 in downtown Columbus.
The Columbus Fire Station #2 site is located on the southern edge of downtown Columbus, adjacent to Interstate 70. The current station houses a heavy rescue company and a bomb squad. It is one of the busiest fire stations in the United States with over 20,000 service runs annually. Built in 1962, the fire station has been renovated and upgraded several times but has reached the end of its useful life.
In addition to architecture and engineering services, the project will include the demolition of the existing 14,000 square foot building as well as coordination with the re-design of the adjacent I-70/I-71 split area, a major ODOT project for which DLZ is also providing engineering services. DLZ will also provide surveying/ROW services, site-civil engineering, geotechnical engineering and landscape architecture for the Fulton Street project, which is located on a tight, urban site.
The new fire station will be designed to City of Columbus “Green Design” standards for energy conservation and has a goal of LEED Gold Certification.
