Covered Bridge St. James Road across Olentangy River
The Marion County Engineers Office engaged DLZ for Inspection, Materials Testing, and Construction Administration support services for a project. This was an important and high profile project for an LPA bridge replacement. The project consisted of intact removal of a historic steel truss bridge on St. James Road over the Olentangy River. Later, a new timber truss wood covered bridge would replace the original bridge. The covered bridge was constructed on a spread footing on the north side and drilled shafts on the south side. It also included concrete abutments, approach work on both sides, as well as minor widening of County Road 163.
DLZ provided review and observations of the installed MOT and SWPPP reports, to confirm the installation of each for the project. Additional responsibilities included; organizing documentation to create pay requests and change orders for the County Engineers Office and LPA funding sources, confirmed compliance of activities and materials during ODOT’s monthly review of project files, and performed and documented project meetings (pre-construction and progress).
DLZ also utilized a web-based Project Management System used to upload project documentation daily. This system also provided both the Marion County Engineers Office and ODOT District 6 officials to remotely access and audit the project, as desired.
