Canalete Hydroelectric project, Costa Rica

This project, owned by Coopeguanacaste, contracting its development to Edificadora Beta SA, is a hydroelectric project on the Zapote river consisting of a lateral intake with a concrete dam with overflow spillway, bottom discharge gate, and channel type conduction to the daily regulation reservoir. The reservoir has dissipation works for conduction, spillway, and water intake in an antechamber at the beginning of penstock. The project has a 34m high steel surge tank. The powerhouse has 2 Francis units for an installed capacity of 17.5 MW.

DLZ Carbon was hired by Edificadora Beta, for the final design and construction plans of all civil works, including the floodgates. The plant began operating in January 2008.
