Conference Center Gannon Building, Lansing Community College
DLZ has been a long-time partner with Lansing Community College. To renovate the Gannon Building, at the college, DLZ provided professional architecture and engineering services. The renovation of faculty offices adjacent to the Student Commons and Food Service would accommodate the new Conference Center. These renovations encompass approximately 7,000 square feet and include
- A large conference room to seat about 150-200 occupants,
- Adjacent small breakout meeting rooms
- Lobby and pre-function spaces
- Storage rooms
- Foodservice staging area
- Kitchen improvements and equipment upgrades
The design intended to incorporate a unique Conference Center that could be used by LCC and the community. The Conference Center includes several visual guides to create a simplistic flow through spaces. To accomplish this, DLZ used the shapes of the spaces and views from every area, locations of doors and openings, as tools. Even, use of lighting and technology, the progression of varying ceiling heights, overall ceiling and flooring design patterns, and custom design casework helped.
The project utilized an Integrated Project Delivery method in partnership with Granger Construction as part of the 2015 Capital Outlay Build Forward Project Improvements.
DLZ received the AIA Mid-Michigan Architectural Detail Award for the Lansing Community College New Conference Center in 2017.
