Fifth Avenue Dam Removal
DLZ is performing construction administration and full-time oversight of the dam removal and river restoration work. The project is being managed by the City of Columbus but is also funded by The Ohio State University and the Ohio EPA.
This project features the removal of a dam constructed in 1935 and restoration of one of the most visible portions of the Olentangy River along The Ohio State University’s main campus.
Some of the goals of the project include:
- Improving water quality and aquatic habitat
- Making the river more aesthetically pleasing
- Not impacting current adjacent structures or the flood plain
- Improved safety for watercraft
DLZ is monitoring the construction work and representing the City in coordinating with the design engineer, funding agencies and local environmental groups.
