Veteran’s Memorial at Memorial Park, Huntington
The City of Huntington desired to create a new Veteran’s Memorial within Memorial Park for ceremonies and other gatherings. They envisioned a venue to honor all branches of the military. Accessibility was a key aspect of the design which included a new pedestrian bridge, asphalt trail, concrete walks, and decorative pavements. DLZ moved a Sherman Tank previously located within the park to the Veteran’s Memorial. The City acquired a T-33 Shooting Star jet to serve as the centerpiece of the space. Other improvements included interpretive plaques, flagpoles, decorative lighting, and plantings. A community group sponsored and designed a Purple Heart Monument for incorporation. The Memorial is anticipated to continue to grow through the expansion of dedication plaques and pavers in the coming years.
DLZ services included surveys, preliminary design documents, construction documents, permitting, bidding assistance, and construction administration services.
