Nickel Plate Trail over SR 931, R-36343
The City of Kokomo retained DLZ to provide construction inspection and administration services for federal-aid construction of a single span bridge for the Nickel Plate Trail over SR 931. Having the unique distinction of being the only bridge over SR 931, it serves as a key connection to more than 40 miles of trail, allowing bicyclists to safely cross the highway and be able to travel from Kokomo to Rochester. Also included with this project was “gateway” signage and enhanced lighting system allowing the uplighting on the bridge to be varied.
Coordination was required with INDOT for lane closures on SR 931 during construction, construction of the pre-engineering bridge in the right-of-way, and complete closure for the bridge’s setting. DLZ performed construction inspection, materials testing, as well as record keeping in conformance with INDOT and FHWA guidelines.
