Uniroyal-Hill Street Facility Demolition and Asbestos Abatement

The City of Mishawaka hired DLZ to complete the overall Project Management and prepare the demolition specifications and plans for the former Uniroyal-Hill Street facility. DLZ also provided full time on-site representative services during the abatement/demolition. Significant components of the project included asbestos and environmental abatement, demolitions, stabilizing existing structures and the construction of new retaining walls and site restoration.

The 43-acre site is located in downtown Mishawaka fronting the south bank of the St. Joseph River and includes a raceway formerly used to provide power to the site. Numerous public streets and easements traverse the site. Infrastructure included 57 buildings representing over 1.7 million square feet of former industrial space. The demolition plans and specifications were structured to maximize the recycling and reuse of materials.

Meetings were held with local businesses, City emergency services and other stakeholders to make sure that all aspects of the implosion were coordinated. Project was completed without change orders for asbestos abatement and demolition work.
