US 27 Cynthiana Bypass
We completed the Phase I and Phase II design on this 4.1 mile $24,334,000 new construction in Harrison County. This project required versatility with several challenges to be addressed. This bypass solution demanded strong geometric design capabilities with having a roundabout replace the “T” intersection at US 62 and US 27, both routes having 2008 ADT’s of 7390 and 5234, respectively. The project used a two lane initial with four lane 40’ median ultimate typical. The alignment was through an agricultural area and context-sensitive approaches were used in the final design to reflect the current situation while keeping elements required for the future ultimate.
Structural design was included for three bridges – 1) over Gray’s Run, 2) over KY 36, and 3) over the South Fork of the Licking River and CSX Railroad along with several culverts. We designed and provided the Stage I and Stage II structural plans for the five-span, 903’ long bridge over the Licking River and main CSX rail line having a 265’ center span over the river.
