Cookies

This document provides instructions on how the user interface, key design elements, and functional requirements for a Cookie Banner and Cookie Preference Center are to be implemented on dlz.com for U.S. website visitors only to address potential cookie-related litigation risk. These Instructions are intended to be provided to the appropriate DLZ team implementing the Instructions within the cookie manager.

These Instructions assume an explicit opt-in framework, in which all cookies, pixels, beacons, APIs, and other similar technologies, except for Always Active Cookies (defined below), are OFF by default until the user accepts them.

These Instructions were prepared with the understanding that DLZ uses CookieYes as its cookie manager vendor as of the last updated date of these Instructions. However, these Instructions are not tailored to CookieYes’ available settings or specifications and these Instructions make certain assumptions about CookieYes’ capabilities. If any Instructions cannot be implemented using CookieYes, DLZ may need to seek a different vendor with the necessary capabilities.

1. Cookie Scanning

CookieYes, or any similar cookie management tool, should include a cookie scanning feature. This scanning tool detects cookies on the website and automatically categorizes the cookies into Cookie Categories that correlate to the user’s Cookie Preference Center experience. The scanning feature should be set to scan the website at least monthly. Some cookie managers may not detect all relevant online tracking technologies; for example, they may not identify certain tags, pixels, APIs, and JavaScript. A designated employee should be instructed to manually review these scans to ensure that the scanning is accurate, and to categorize the cookies into their appropriate Cookie Category.

2. Cookie Categorization

After a cookie scan, the cookie scanning tool automatically categorizes identified cookies into Cookie Categories. Cookie Categories are displayed to the end user in their Cookie Preference Center. Cookie Categories, and their descriptions, are customizable, and should be set as follows:

Description

Without these Cookies, your experience on the website may be interrupted, slower, or inefficient. The following are instructions on how to categorize cookies within the cookie management tool to ensure that the appropriate cookies are subject to the user’s preferences:

  • After a scan, the cookie management tool may automatically categorize cookies and may also create a category or categorize cookies as “Unknown” or “Uncategorized”. Any cookies automatically categorized by the cookie management tool as “Unknown” must be manually categorized.
  • The “Unknown” category should not display to the website visitor in the Cookie Preference Center.
  • After every scan, every cookie, including newly added cookies, should be manually reviewed to ensure they are categorized correctly.
  • Ensure that the cookies are categorized per the chart below. If there is any confusion as to how to categorize a specific cookie, contact Legal for further instructions.
