Home / Building Engineering
Building engineering touches every system that makes a facility work: structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection. When those disciplines are well coordinated and designed with long-term performance in mind, buildings function the way owners and communities need them to. DLZ delivers all of them in-house, across a wide range of project types, delivery methods, and industries.
Our building engineering approach is rooted in practical problem-solving and multidisciplinary coordination. Whether we’re designing systems for a new facility or modernizing infrastructure in an occupied building, we bring the field experience, existing-condition knowledge, and cross-discipline collaboration needed to deliver work that performs in the real world.
Our support goes beyond design drawings. From concept through construction administration, we help owners move projects forward with confidence, providing construction documents, cost estimating, bidding support, submittal review, RFI response, and more. The result is a more complete partnership — fewer gaps between systems, smoother delivery, and a team that understands your project from the ground up.
Structural engineering for new construction, renovation, and complex existing facilities, spanning concrete, steel, wood, and aluminum across a wide range of project types and delivery methods.
Mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering for new construction and existing facilities, delivering energy-efficient, coordinated building systems across a wide range of facility types and delivery methods.
Electrical engineering for buildings of all types and scales, covering power distribution, lighting, systems design, and renewable energy across multiple states, jurisdictions, and delivery methods.

Our building engineering teams work across a wide range of facility types, including justice and correctional, federal, education, civic and public safety, office, and maintenance facilities. We also support water, wastewater (treatment, storage, pumping and conveyance), and industrial facilities where building systems play a critical role in operations. We have experience with both new construction and the renovation and modernization of existing buildings.
We provide full-service building engineering across all traditional building systems, including structural, mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, fire protection, and electrical. Having all disciplines in-house means better coordination, fewer gaps between systems, and a smoother path from design to construction.
Yes. We have extensive experience performing site surveys, existing-condition assessments, and modernization work in active, occupied facilities, including third-party assessments where an independent evaluation is needed. When documentation is incomplete or systems have changed over time, our teams conduct the field investigation needed to develop accurate, practical engineering solutions.
Our involvement doesn’t end at construction documents. We provide bidding support, submittal review, RFI response, and construction administration, with the ability to provide full project representation and construction inspection through our field services teams.
Clients come back to us because we’re reliable, collaborative, and practical. Our multidisciplinary structure means your project benefits from integrated coordination across all building systems, and our long-term client relationships reflect a brand built around partnership, accountability, and solutions that hold up over time.
