Fire Station No.12, City of Akron

The City of Akron selected DLZ to assist the Akron Engineering Bureau with the design of a new replacement for fire station no.12. The new 9,320 SF fire station/EMS facility has

  • Three-bay apparatus bay
  • Six dormitories
  • Captain’s housing
  • An extensive fitness room
  • A meeting room
  • An office for police support and miscellaneous support spaces

With careful planning and dialog with Akron’s fire team, the facility will have a series of state-of-the-art features to assist the firefighters with decontamination of gear, small equipment, and most importantly, personnel.

The DLZ geotechnical team has provided soil borings and engineering analysis of the site. There are some bearing capacity concerns as the site is heavy with subgrade organics and recommendations include removing the organics, importing structural fill, and recompacting all to allow for traditional spread footings in lieu of a more costly deep pile foundation system.
