Process
This project includes improvements to the urban section in Stanton, widening from a 2-lane road with some limited areas of on-street parking to a 3-lane urban facility with a 10’ roadside border area and sidewalks. Also included are geometric improvements to the rural section of KY 213 from the north city limits of Stanton to Mountain Road.
The existing 2-lane road has narrow shoulders and a narrow bridge (20’) with a significant alignment deficiency on the south approach. The new 34’ wide bridge and its approaches will be constructed above the 100-year flood elevation just west of the existing structure. A detailed hydraulic analysis was performed for Red River and its tributaries to ensure a no-rise certification. The proposed rural section includes two 11’ lanes with 6’ usable (paved) shoulders. In select areas, 8’ shoulders will be used for maintenance of traffic needs.
This project will complete the corridor improvements in Powell County. Right-of-way plans have been submitted, and the project is awaiting funding.
