Hospital Transportation Improvements, City of Marquette, Michigan

DLZ provided comprehensive studies and design services to the City of Marquette, Michigan, for its regional hospital transportation improvements. All of the services were performed to comply with MDOT requirements since the project involved major work on US-41 and a right-of-way permit.

The main work tasks performed included traffic studies, alternatives analysis, preparation of an Environmental Assessment, topographic and hydraulic survey. The design engineering services covered were:

  • Geotechnical engineering
  • Utility relocation and design
  • Roadway design for three roundabouts and traffic signal design
  • Drainage design
  • Complex hydraulic analysis
  • Structural and lighting design
  • Design of non-motorized facilities
  • Construction cost estimates

In addition, DLZ’s work included preparation of front-end documents and specifications, property descriptions/plat, extensive public and stakeholder coordination/outreach, coordination with MDOT/FHWA regarding break-in limited access ROW, environmental permits, MDOT ROW permit, MOT design, and preparation of TMP and mobility analysis.

DLZ completed studies and design under an extremely aggressive timeline so that the Marquette hospital transportation facilities would be constructed in time for the opening of the new hospital.
