Nelsonville Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Wastewater Treatment Plant

March 1, 2024

The City of Nelsonville, Ohio recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of its new Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. The $21.2 million project was necessary to replace an old plant that was operating beyond its original capacity. The new facility has a treatment capacity of 1.2 MGD and will serve not only the City but also several surrounding communities.

DLZ provided planning, design, and construction services, and played a crucial role in securing funding to minimize the financial burden on residents. Due to the pandemic-driven inflation, construction costs increased by almost 40% during the bidding process. However, DLZ worked with funding agencies to increase the grant/loan award, which included a $13.5 million grant and a $7.7 million loan from four different agencies.

Our team has been providing sanitary sewers to unsewered communities in the surrounding area for quite some time and we’re pleased to partner with the City of Nelsonville to help improve their infrastructure. The new plant will serve more than 1,500 homes in the area, as well as many businesses.
