St. James Road Covered Bridge

Marion, Ohio

The Marion County Engineers Office engaged DLZ for Inspection, Materials Testing, and Construction Administration support services for an important, high profile LPA bridge replacement project. The project consisted of the intact removal of an existing historic steel truss bridge on County Road 141 (St. James Road) over the Olentangy River for replacement with a new timber truss wood covered bridge. The covered bridge was constructed on a spread footing on the north side and drilled shafts on the south side and included; concrete abutments, approach work on both sides, as well as minor widening of County Road 163.

DLZ provided review and observations of the installed MOT and SWPPP reports, to confirm the installation of each for the project. Additional responsibilities included; organizing documentation to create pay requests and change orders for the County Engineers Office and LPA funding sources, confirmed compliance of activities and materials during ODOT’s monthly review of project files, and performed and documented project meetings (pre-construction and progress).

DLZ also utilized, a web-based Project Management System where project documentation was uploaded daily and provided both the Marion County Engineers Office and ODOT District 6 officials to remotely access and audit the project, as desired.
