DLZ, as a subconsultant to HNTB, provided structural, mechanical, and electrical design services for the addition and renovation of Purdue University Mackey Arena. The project included the design and construction of a new three-level, Student-Athletic Development Center adjacent to the Mackey Arena along Northwestern Avenue in addition to single-story additions around the perimeter of the arena for miscellaneous program space.
In addition to the new construction, the lower level, concourses, and part of the seating within the existing arena were renovated, practice fields were constructed and the Grand Prix track was relocated. The addition included consolidated offices for athletics administration, sports information, men’s and women’s basketball, track and field, and volleyball on the upper level of the addition.
The addition also provided a new oversized basketball practice court, locker room suites for men’s and women’s basketball, weight training rooms, sports medicine areas, as well as two club spaces for game-day dining. The renovation of Purdue University Mackey Arena provided wider concourses, additional restrooms, increased concession areas as well as completely renovated locker rooms for other varsity sports.
